In the Gallery - Bruce Burgess
An opening reception was held in honor of local artist Bruce Burgess on Friday, August 29th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Apple Gallery at the Stokes County Arts Council, 500 N. Main Street, Danbury. The exhibit will be on display August 29th through September 23rd. The public is invited to visit the Apple Gallery Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and view this lovely exhibit of oil paintings and drawings.
About the Artist… Bruce Burgess enjoys drawing and painting directly from life. Capturing the feelings of an experience and sharing those is the greatest connection between the artist and the viewer, hopefully evoking an emotional response that is also deeply personal. Drawing on a background of illustration where many photo references and studies are produced for each composition, painting directly from the subject demands a spontaneity and accuracy that is challenging and rewarding.
His formal studies began at NOVA Community College and continued with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration from Virginia Commonwealth University, studies in painting and printmaking from Saatchi Art School, Florence, Italy, and continued studies at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Burgess participates in “plein-air” outings and shows, including the Painting North Carolina show at Germanton Gallery every April. His artwork may be found at fine restaurants in the area, including Milner’s American Southern in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
This show is a combination of oil paintings and drawings celebrating the life, beauty and culture of the state. These works were created on location, “en plein-air” in North Carolina, in most cases “alla prima” – completed in one sitting.
Burgess was raised mostly in northern Virginia, then moved to Stokes County after school and travelling the country to be close to his wife and raise a family. Burgess and his family enjoy the outdoors, exploring the natural world and spends time painting and drawing through commissions including portraits, illustrations, and murals in a variety of mediums. The artist may be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
